How to care for a horse

What you need            

water hay land cover/rug Shelter  LOVE halter & leadrope

You need a grooming kit to brush and keep your horse clean.  Your grooming kit should have a hoof pick, dandy brush, currycomb and body brush and two sponges.

How to catch your horse

Slowly walk  up. Make sure the horse can see you.Don't yell “Hello horse, I’m going to ride you.”

Bring a treat and hold it out. Have your hand flat. While you hide the halter behind your back, put the rope over the horse's shoulder and put the noseband on and buckle the head piece. Lead your horse out the gate.

How to lead

To lead your horse around, a halter and rope is really important. Stand beside the horse’s shoulder.

Care and attention

Horses should be checked about 4 times day to make sure they are ok, their paddock is safe and they have enough food and water.  You also need to talk to them and give them attention.

I recommend to read this book because it is interesting and tells you all about what they do with the horses. I always want to read it. It never gets boring.

Going to Kate's

In the holidays Lily, Meg, Mum and I went to Kate's. We had to go down the back paddock to get the ponies Caddy and Paddy.                              

I groomed Caddy while Lily and Meg groomed Paddy. When  we finished grooming Kate said “What’s missing?”
I said “The saddles.”
Kate said “That’s right, we are riding bareback.” We took the ponies to the mounting block.

First I got on Caddy. Then Lily got on Paddy. Then we went round the lane. We saw all the other  horses like Jazz, Diago, Flo, and Rokit.

When we got back, Kate made an obstacle course. We had to do the obstacle course.

next kate timed us and Lily won it. Then Kate timed Me and Lily doing around the world and I won. Nex Kate let us do some trotting I got Caddy going Lily could not get Paddy going. Next Kate made us swop over ponies I got paddy going a whole circle. Then we took the bridle’s off. Kate let us rid back and Meg had a ride to Me and Lily rode Paddy double Meg rode Caddy.
